We stopped in for a beer before the game at the Springbok Tavern on South Africa

Road, just across the street from the stadium. We'd read about pubs where partisans

of the visiting team dare not show their heads, let along their colors, but the Springbok

was delightfully ecumenical, serving ale to fans of all creeds. Indeed a table piled

high with Blackburn Rovers fans held court in the middle of the bar, roaring out

a lusty version of 'No, Nay, Never', and three or four British bobbies

swayed back and forth with them, singing.
