One Ring To Rule Them All
It was a movie-reel summer day. The Yankees received their 1999
World Series rings in a ceremony just before the game started --
you can just see them standing in a crescent facing home plate.
"It was a special day," Yankee pitcher Andy Petitte told Brian Lewis
of the News. "[Getting the rings] reminded us that we're the world
champions, and I wanted to go out and pitch like a world champion."
And so he did. Petitte threw the greatest game of his career to date and
holding the most productive offense in baseball this year to a two-hitter.
