Last week, as I was walking past the Ed Sullivan Theater
(on Broadway at 52nd Street), a woman with a clipboard
said, 'If you can answer one trivia question, I'll give you a
ticket to tomorrow's taping of the Late Show with David
Letterman'. Fire away, I said (or words to that effect). 'Who
is Bif Henderson?' she asked. I was able to identify Bif as
Dave's stage manager, and she handed me piece of paper
redeemable for one Late Show ticket. I felt like one of
the elect. In retrospect, had I stated that Bif Henderson
was the first man on the moon, she would probably
still have handed me a ticket; but the sense of
accomplishment was gratifying.
