One of the myriad major shows at the Met

(along with Ellsworth Kelly, Louis Comfort Tiffany,

Jean Dunand: Master of Art Deco, and others) is that of

Edward Burne-Jones, one of those remarkable artists

who achieved great fame in his lifetime (the 1800s).

He loved Arthurian legends and Greek myths and fairy

tales. Right on, Burne-Jones, I say. Others, however,

have been somewhat less keen. Setting out for his lecture

tour in the United States, Oscar Wile asked Whistler

what advice he would give. "If the sea becomes rough,

I would upchuck Burne-Jones," Whistler replied.
