Cappadocia:
In Turkey, the territory between Aksaray, Nigde, Nevieshir, and Kayseri is called Cappadocia. The Hittites were there early on but then again others had preceded them with habitation going all the way back to the Paleolithic. It was a caravansary on the Silk Road and later an incubator of Christianity. In the fall of 2001 I joined the throngs that found this a magic place.
Cappadocia is at around 3,400 feet and looming in the background at nearly 13,000 feet is Mount Ereyies - the now extinct volcano that spewed cubic miles of volcanic tuff that supplies the natural building materials that man and nature have both been chipping away at until we have today's strange and beautiful landscape.
Come along and join me in a short tour of this natural magic kingdom. Should you want to strike out to see it for yourself its' located at the head of the arrow below.
