We moved to Manhattan two years ago this month.

I moved first, a little over two weeks before Libby,

and lived for most of that time (after four or five days

at the Hampshire Broadway Hotel) on West 16th Street

between Fifth and Sixth Avenues. My old friend Karen

Kawahara lived in the apartment below the sidewalk,

and I took the in-law studio at the back of the first floor.
